GAMA-1 Technologies Wins the National Weather Service HydroVIS Contract

GAMA-1 Technologies has secured a pivotal contract with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Weather Service Office of Water Prediction (OWP) for the HydroVIS project. This endeavor aims to bolster the nation’s water prediction capabilities amid challenges like floods, droughts, and climate change impacts. The HydroVIS system, functioning within the Amazon Web Services (AWS) public cloud, will serve as a primary platform to disseminate comprehensive hydrologic information, including experimental Flood Inundation Mapping (FIM) services. As part of OWP’s strategy, HydroVIS will integrate with existing NWS systems, aiding in timely and proactive decision-making for the public, stakeholders, and partners.

The GAMA-1 Technologies team’s expertise in hydrologic sciences, software development, and AWS Cloud Infrastructure will be pivotal in realizing OWP’s ambitions, especially their goal to provide high-resolution flood prediction services to nearly the entire U.S. population by 2026.

The Office of Water Prediction’s mission is to collaboratively research, develop, and deliver state-of-the-science national hydrologic analyses, forecast information, data, decision-support services, and guidance to support essential emergency services and water management decisions. In partnership with NWS national, regional, and local offices, OWP coordinates, integrates, and supports consistent water prediction activities from global to local levels.

The Role of HydroVIS

HydroVIS, short for Hydrologic Visualization and Information Services, is a critical component of OWP’s strategy. It operates within the Amazon Web Services (AWS) public cloud and serves as a dissemination platform for comprehensive hydrologic information, including experimental FIM services, experimental geospatial visualization services, hydrologic data services, and forecast Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).

HydroVIS not only addresses the need for actionable flood information but also integrates seamlessly into the NWS’ National Map Viewer and NWPS Web application, enhancing decision-making capabilities for core partners, stakeholders, and the public.
