Greenbelt, MD – May 2026
GAMA-1 Technologies is proud to recognize Lorne Leonard, PhD, for his outstanding contributions supporting the National Weather Service Office of Water Prediction’s HydroVIS Contract. Lorne’s work has earned high praise from NOAA leadership and reflects the level of technical excellence, collaboration, and mission commitment that GAMA-1 brings to every customer engagement.
In a recent customer recognition message, Derek Giardino, Flood Inundation Mapping Program Lead within NOAA’s Office of Water Prediction, commended Lorne for the exceptional impact he has made on one of the project’s most significant efforts to date. Lorne was tasked with helping solve a complex challenge: finding a way to visualize five Flood Inundation Mapping products with different probabilities in a single service that would be easy to load, sustainable, and valuable for field users.
It was no small assignment. Derek described the effort as “a mountain to climb,” and noted that Lorne not only met the challenge, but “conquered it and surpassed expectations.”
With the service now officially available to the field, Lorne’s work is positioned to make a meaningful difference in how flood information is visualized, accessed, and used by those who rely on timely, actionable data. His contribution supports a critical public safety mission: helping communities better understand flood risks and enabling decision-makers to take informed action when flooding threatens lives and property.
Beyond this major technical achievement, Lorne has also been recognized for the way he shows up as a teammate. Derek highlighted Lorne’s receptiveness to feedback, proactive approach to new projects, consistent meeting contributions, and positive impact on the overall health of the project. These qualities reflect not only strong technical capability, but also the professionalism and collaborative spirit that drive successful customer partnerships.
“Transformational work takes transformational people,” Derek shared in his recognition message, calling Lorne “just that” for the project.
GAMA-1 Program Manager Theresa Manassa echoed that appreciation, noting that she also values Lorne’s contributions and looks forward to recognizing him internally for a job well done.
Lorne’s recognition is a powerful example of the value GAMA-1 employees deliver every day in support of federal missions. His work on HydroVIS demonstrates how technical innovation, customer focus, and mission alignment can come together to produce solutions that matter.
Congratulations to Lorne Leonard on this well-deserved recognition. His dedication, initiative, and transformational contributions are making a real impact for NOAA, the Office of Water Prediction, and the communities that depend on accurate flood information to stay safe.
