Key members of GAMA-1’s National Weather Service’s (NWS) Cloud Dissemination and Hydrologic Visualization and Information Services (HydroVIS) support team have been recognized by our NWS HydroVIS client for their outstanding performance during a recent critical event involving the HydroVIS Enterprise GIS System.
HydroVIS plays a pivotal role in public safety, disseminating map-based services that help forecasters identify potential flood risks in real-time. Earlier this month, the system experienced a significant outage just as forecasters were bracing for a generational and catastrophic flood event across the Midwest and Ohio Valley.
Without hesitation, our team worked tirelessly—through evenings, over the weekend, and across time zones—to troubleshoot, mitigate impact, and provide steadfast support. Their efforts ensured the system continued to serve as a vital tool in reducing potential loss of life and property damage during a high-risk event.
In recognition of their efforts, GAMA-1 received this powerful note of appreciation from our NWS client:

About NWS: The National Weather Service’s (NWS) Hydrologic Visualization and Information Services (HydroVIS) is a cloud-based geospatial platform designed to enhance water prediction capabilities across the United States. Operating within the Amazon Web Services (AWS) public cloud, HydroVIS serves as a primary dissemination platform for comprehensive hydrologic information, including experimental Flood Inundation Mapping (FIM) services.
HydroVIS integrates with existing NWS systems, aiding in timely and proactive decision-making for the public, stakeholders, and partners. It provides access to dynamic, high-resolution flood inundation maps that depict the extent of predicted flooding, derived from River Forecast Center forecasts and National Water Model analyses and forecasts. These services are available via the National Water Prediction Service, the NWS GIS Viewer, or directly through URLs hosted on the HydroVIS cloud system.
As part of the Office of Water Prediction’s strategy, HydroVIS aims to expand its services to cover nearly 100% of the U.S. population by 2026, enhancing the nation’s ability to prepare for and respond to water-related hazards.
