GAMA-1 Technologies Awarded NOAA NWS National Ice Center (NIC) Transition and Enhanced IT Security Support

Greenbelt, MD – August 2019

GAMA-1 Technologies has been awarded the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Weather Service (NWS) National Ice Center (NIC) Transition and Enhanced IT Security Support contract. GAMA-1 supports NWS’s initiative to transition the NIC IT systems and processes to the NWS Central Operations’ (NCO’s) data center and systems in College Park, MD, and Boulder, CO. As well as to optimize and enhance the security of NCO’s IT systems. Our network engineers provide support to NCO, which enables the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) to deliver national and global weather, water, climate and space weather guidance, forecasts, warnings, and analyses to a broad range of users and partners. These products and services respond to users' need to protect life and property, enhance the nation's economy, and support the nation's growing demand for environmental information. To support this work and mission, GAMA-1 is tasked with building and managing a secure, logical, separate subnet/VLAN to support NIC servers, scientists, and devices. Our engineers will transition the existing NIC operational applications and website hosting to the NCO Data Center.

NIC
About National Ice Center (NIC)
The United States National Ice Center (NIC) is a unique, tri-agency government organization comprised of NOAA, the United States Navy, and the United States Coast Guard. NIC’s mission is to provide high-quality strategic and tactical ice analysis services tailored to meet the operational requirements of U.S. national interests. Today, NIC produces literally hundreds of ice-related products, including weekly ice analyses, ice forecasts, daily ice edge products, tactical scale ice analyses, and annotated satellite imagery. The NIC products are made available to customers via a variety of media, ranging from the Web to old-fashioned fax charts. The NIC is a unique organization, not only in its arrangement as a tri-agency government partnership but also in the scope and range of its products. While other countries possess agencies whose purpose is monitoring regional ice conditions, NIC is the only agency in the world that monitors and analyzes ice conditions across the entire globe. NIC’s interagency cooperation improves government efficiency by pooling the resources of each partner agency, building on the strengths of each partner, and removing duplication of effort that had existed prior to the merger.

GAMA-1 Technologies Achieves Select Consulting Partner Status in the Amazon Web Services Partner Network

posted Jul 24, 2019, 5:10 AM by Ann-marie Saucier-Gnall   [ updated Oct 9, 2019, 7:02 PM ]

July 23, 2019 – GAMA-1 Technologies, Linking Business and Technology, has achieved Select Consulting Partner status in the Amazon Web Service (AWS) Partner Network (APN) and announces its AWS Service Delivery designation, recognizing that GAMA-1 follows best practices and has proven success delivering AWS services to end customers.

Achieving the AWS Service Delivery designation differentiates GAMA-1 as an APN member that provides specialized demonstrated technical proficiency and proven customer success in delivering Select Tier services. To receive the designation, APN Partners must possess deep AWS experience and deliver solutions seamlessly on AWS. “GAMA-1 is proud to achieve APN Select Consulting Partner status with Service Delivery designation as proof of our exceptional customer satisfaction reviews, particularly from NOAA’s NESDIS Chief Information Officer, Irene Parker, which highlight our dedication to being a trusted APN Partner that continues to support NOAA achieve their technology goals by leveraging the agility, breadth of services, and pace of innovation that AWS provides.” ~ Gustavo Gamarra, Chief Executive Officer.

AWS is enabling scalable, flexible, and cost-effective solutions from startups to global enterprises. To support the seamless integration and deployment of these solutions, AWS established the AWS Service Delivery Program to help customers identify APN Consulting Partners with deep experience delivering specific AWS services.

GAMA-1, working in collaboration with NESDIS ACIO-S and AWS, has successfully developed and tested a pilot for securely ingesting satellite data from six external data providers (Sentinel-3A, METEOSAT-8, MODIS-Aqua, MODIS-Terra, NASA CYGNSS, and KOPMSAT-5) as part of the Secure Ingest Gateway Pilot (SIGP). The SIGP is a NESDIS implementation to ingest external data, perform data quality checking, data integrity auditing, and making data available to internal users for 15 days via internal distribution systems (e.g., STAR and ESPDS). GAMA-1 has developed a cloud-based solution on AWS that successfully demonstrates and possesses current capabilities to ingest, process, and distribute data from external data providers. GAMA-1 has also developed a cost model/breakdown to provide secure data product as a service, including providing real-time cost breakdowns. We have implemented a high-level tagging strategy to tag/bill for individual data providers, which cover creating a billing for the environment, name, POC, and project. By leveraging high band-width capabilities of N-Wave network and AWS Direct Connect, data transfer latency is  minimized. Through the cloud-based SIGP architecture, we scale up and scale down compute capacity using a job scheduler to mitigate latency during data processing. “Achieving APN Select Consulting Partner status allows GAMA-1 to stand ready to continue assisting NOAA and other Federal Agencies in its endeavors to move data and mission-critical applications to the cloud.” – Gian Dilawari, Chief Technology Officer

Greenbelt, MD – October 4th, 2018

Weather Ready Nation
The Weather-Ready Nation (WRN) Ambassador™ is an initiative of the U.S. Department of Commerce, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) through which it formally recognizes NOAA partners who are working to improve the nation’s readiness against extreme weather, water, and climate events.

The Weather-Ready Nation (WRN) initiative was formed in 2011 in response to deadly tornadoes that struck Joplin, Missouri and Birmingham, Alabama. At that point, the National Weather Service realized the need to better understand how to motivate people to respond to warnings.

Weather-Ready Nation Ambassadors commit to work and engage in dialogue with NOAA and other Ambassadors to strengthen national resilience against extreme weather. As a WRN Ambassador, GAMA-1 has committed to work with NOAA to help unify efforts across government, non-profits, academia, and private industry toward making our Nation more ready, responsive, and resilient against extreme environmental hazards.

"GAMA-1 is honored to participate in the Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador Initiative," said Gus Gamarra, President GAMA-1 Technologies. "It’s critical that NWS Leadership advance science and technology to ensure the success of the nation's weather readiness and we applaud NOAA for leading such an important initiative."
